Will Their Likes Really Satisfy You?
I think it is safe to say that the best and worst parts of social media are almost 2 sides of the same coin. We love being able to share aspects of our life and being able to engage with others, but it does leave the door open for unwanted criticism as well.
My one piece of advice is straight and to the point: Do not become a hostage to the likes and reposts.
Of course, we like when people…like what we post. That is a natural feeling, but the true test, is will you allow the number of likes to make or break your day? Something as trivial as a “like” should not have that much power over your life. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone. The number of likes you have, will not validate or invalidate anything in your life or what you have gone through.
It can be very easy to fall into the trap of wanting to constantly hit a certain amount of likes. The thing to remember is that you don’t live for social media. Social media is a place where you can choose to share your experiences. Stop looking for approval from people who do not add anything to your life other than their opinions. I’m sure we are all old enough to realize how depressing the 1st of the month can be when rent and all of our other bills are due. That being said…if they do not contribute to your bills, wipe your tears when you cry, or put food on your table, THEIR “LIKE” DOES NOT MATTER!.
Don’t seek their approval. If you post for approval, you will never be satisfied. Celebrities can be praised one day and on the brink of cancellation the next. If JLo and Drake are not above reproach, neither are you. So, do not depend on or seek the approval of others when you post. Post because you want to share something. Not so everyone can ‘like’ your post.
There really isn’t much more to say. I don’t want to beat a dead horse. I just want to shed a bit of light on the ups and downs of social media. It is supposed to be entertaining and uplifting! Not something that makes you question your existence. Don’t become hostage to the “Likes” and “Views”. You are worth way more than that.
