It’s Time To Detox Your Phone!

A lot of people like to detox! It’s similar to spring cleaning in the sense that you are getting rid of everything you don’t need so you can start fresh.

Why not try a social media detox? It’s not until you are without power or go through some form of a natural disaster that you realize how much you use your phone and depend on social media. Most of us would not know what to do with ourselves if we didn’t have access to some form of social media. Challenge yourself to a social media detox today!

Start small and work your way up. No one said you have to go from using your phone every day to not using it for 30 days. I’m a bit of a realist, and I know that would be a bit of a stretch even for me. So, begin with baby steps. Progress is progress at the end of the day.

1) Begin by doing some inventory on who and what pages you follow. A good baby step would be to unfollow all of those pages that only post negativity. Get rid of it! Anything that does not feel positive must go.

2) Next, start by leaving your phone. I know this will come as a shock, but you do not need your phone with you everywhere you go. We miss so much by constantly having our faces in our phones. You miss that beautiful rainbow after a storm. You’ll miss seeing that cute little puppy walking down the street. You may even miss out on meeting a special someone. The point is, you miss out on a lot when your face is constantly in your phone.

Now, it is 2022, so as much as our phones are used for entertainment, we do also use them for safety. That being said, keep your phone with you in areas you may not feel safe in, but leave your phone when you can. Put your phone away as you are walking through the store. Go on a short walk and do not pick up your phone once. Try incorporating small gaps of time during your day, where you do not use your phone at all. You’d be surprised how much more you notice, and the great stories you can share at dinner time.

The whole point of a social media detox is to be intentional with what you allow to enter your mental space. This world of ours is not always peaches and cream. I think we are all finding that out more and more with each passing day. That being said, do we really need to voluntarily absorb more negativity by allowing social media to be yet another source of stress? The likes, the views, the rumors, the comments, the follows, the blocks, blah blah blah! All of this affects people so much when the actual effect on your real-life…is minimal if any at all. So, get rid of it! Anything causing you stress, anxiety, and anything other than happiness or motivation (when it comes to social media) has to go. The best part about social media is you control what you see. So, take back your control of the wheel, and steer yourself towards happiness versus voluntarily driving yourself towards mental warfare.
