Focus On What You Can Control

Life can be stressful! We constantly have one obstacle after another thrown at us. There is nothing worse than making a plan and having life turn things upside down. A lot of us may not admit it, but we are control freaks. We don’t like what we can’t control. And if we can’t control it, we stress out about how to control how much is out of our control.

Unless you want to continuously lose your hair and prematurely create stress lines on your face, stop stressing about what you can’t control! Instead, focus on what you can control and let the rest of it go. Below are a few things to keep in mind to try to calm that hectic mind of yours.

1) The unknown is scary. And by now, a lot of us have had some pretty unpleasant experiences with the surprises life thought we needed. That being said, don’t overthink and worry yourself into an early grave about things that may or may not even happen. You do not control the deck of cards life chooses to give you, so don’t let it consume you. Focus on your strengths, so that you can get past whatever life throws at you as quickly as possible. You’ve gotten through life this far, so you’ll get through whatever comes your way. Have some faith in yourself!

2) Remain present and in the moment. Enjoy where you are and what you are doing. Don’t ruin a perfectly good day worrying about something that hasn’t happened or that you are not even sure about. When you have a reason to be stressed, then you can stress. If things are going smoothly, enjoy it! Don’t ruin a good time by trying to stress about planning for the next storm that will come your way.

The mind can be a scary place to be if you let it run rampant. Take back some of that control so you can have some peace. Don’t waste time or energy focusing on what is beyond your control. Focus on what you can, give it your best effort, and let everything else go.
