An Intentionally Successful New Year!
Happy New Year! The first thing most people do after we all finish bringing in the New Year is think of what we want our New Year’s resolution to be. A lot of us have a habit of setting several goals because we are filled with all of this productive energy from bringing in the new year. Sometimes, we set our goals a little too high, so that once we actually start the work, we end up feeling discouraged and abandon our goals altogether.
We always say, “this will be the year I achieve my goals.” Well, let me help! I have listed a few steps that will allow you to not only set the goals you want but will help you see them through to the end with 3 simple tips!
1) Set vague/open-ended goals!
Most of the time, we set these specific goals, with specific benchmarks. For example, I want to lose 30 pounds in 60 days by working out 5 times a week. By the time we miss one or two benchmarks, we are ready to give up entirely. Instead, set open-ended goals with realistic benchmarks. That way, you can move your benchmarks as needed while still staying on track with your goals. For example, make the goal to lose 30 pounds by starting to work out on a consistent basis.
2) Plan!
It is GREAT to figure out what you want your goals to be, but without a plan on how to achieve those goals, you will remain stuck at the starting line. Build in grace periods for those hard weeks where it is an achievement just to get out of bed. We all need breaks every now and then, so build them into your plan for success, and it’ll be hard for you to fall behind!
3) Surround yourself with motivation!
A lot of us start strong, but once the New Year’s energy starts to wear off, it can be hard to push yourself to see those resolutions through. One thing that can help, is surrounding yourself by motivational scenery. Change the wallpaper on your phone to reflect what one of your goals are. Put sticky notes on your mirror with motivational quotes that inspire you. Set encouraging reminders on your phone, that will give you those random words of encouragement throughout the day. Do whatever is necessary to ensure that you are surrounded by motivation. You are a product of your environment, so fill your environment with the tools and or people you need to succeed.
With these tips, I can guarantee you will make significant progress with your New Year’s resolutions. This will be the year you see them all the way through! If this wasn’t enough motivation to start your New Year off strong, check out a few of the links below for some additional encouragement.
