Put Your Phone Down & Be More Present!

This post is going to be short and to the point. Too much of anything is bad…especially when it concerns social media.

Social media was meant to entertain. Not to cause stress and anxiety, therefore, use it wisely and in moderation. Challenge yourself to be more present and not overly attached to your phone.

I have seen a lot of people taking social media breaks because it is doing the opposite of making them happy. I’m sure you have heard of people taking social media breaks due to it being too much of a distraction, lowering happiness and self-esteem, etc. Try to catch yourself before you get to that point.

Be more present! Put your phone down as you walk through the store. Instead of taking a picture of every drink and meal you order…just eat it. When you are with your friends, put your phone down and talk to the people you came to spend time with…not your phone. You have no idea how much of life you are missing out on.

There was a viral clip going around a few years ago of a fan at a Beyonce concert. The fan was in the front row, and Beyonce was literally singing to them! BEYONCE!! Instead of being present and soaking up every second of one of the best female talents singing to them…in the flesh… just a few feet away; they were only focused on their phone and recording the moment. She literally stopped singing and told the fans to be present instead of on their phones.

I understand the urge to capture the moment so you can share your happy experiences as well as being able to catalog your memories but do not get so caught up in posting everything that it takes over your life.

The number of likes you receive or do not receive does not define you or determine how interesting you are. You do not need to have an hourglass figure with 2% body fat lying on a beach in Bora Bora. You are perfect the way you are, so do not allow social media to affect how you feel about yourself.

Social media is not the devil. It can be fun and uplifting if you are using it for the right reasons. Remember that social media does not run your life. Be more present in your everyday life, and spend more time enjoying it rather than posting it for everyone to comment on.
